Fatah: Israel and Hamas Holding High Level Contacts
A
Fatah spokesperson said Wednesday that it was clear to the terror
organization that Israel was in contact with Hamas terrorists. In an
interview with the Palestinian Authority-controlled Ma’an news service,
Ahmad Assaf, commenting on reports that “messages” had been exchanged
between Israel and Hamas, said that the contacts were actually more
extensive than previously reported, with Prime Minister Binyamin
Netanyahu himself in contact with top Hamas terrorists.

AN
earthquake which hit North Devon yesterday was “significant by UK
standards” according to the British Geological Survey. Assistant
seismologist Julian Bukits confirmed the earthquake which struck at
around 1.21pm yesterday was the biggest since 2008. It occurred in the
Bristol Channel around halfway between the North Devon coast and South
Wales.
  
Anne Frank’s Diary vandalised in Japan libraries
More
than 100 copies of Anne Frank’s Diary of a Young Girl have been
vandalised in public libraries in Japan’s capital Tokyo, officials say.

Pages have been ripped from at least 265 copies of the diary and other
related books, they added.

It is not clear who is behind the vandalism. A US Jewish rights group
has called for a police investigation.

Socialists to top EU elections, boost for far-right
Europe’s
socialists are set to top the polls in May’s European elections,
according to the first pan-EU election forecast.

The projections, released by Pollwatch Europe on Tuesday (19 February),
give the parliament’s centre-left group 221 out of 751 seats on 29
percent of the vote, up from the 194 seats it currently holds.   

‘Netanyahu will not stop West Bank building for continuation of peace talks’
The
right wing MKs in Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu’s coalition are
concerned over rumors that Israel will be asked to freeze settlement
construction in the West Bank as part of the continued peace talks with
the Palestinians. But Coalition chairman Yariv Levin (Likud) said
Friday, that he did not think Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu would
impose such a building freeze.   
Vatican to Finance Renovation of Nativity Church
Palestine
and the
Pontifical Mission in Jerusalem Thursday signed a $500,000 agreement for
the
restoration of the Church of Nativity in Bethlehem. Ziad Bandak, who
heads the presidential committee overseeing the church renovation,
signed the agreement with Sami Yousef, the regional director of
the Pontifical Mission.

As
news about preparations by opposition fighters for a major offensive
from the south of Damascus on the Syrian capital emerge, Al-Akhbar
learned that the Syrian army is getting ready to confront any surprise
attack after “monitoring, for some time, movements along the Jordanian
border.”
