Hubble spots a strange new type of celestial object
Astronomers have discovered a brand new type of object in our solar system: an active binary asteroid. That means the object, named Body 288P, is the first known hybrid of two rare types of asteroid: a binary that’s made up of two rocks orbiting each other, and an active asteroid that acts more like a comet, leaving a trail of gas and dust in its wake.

Japan Earthquake: Fukushima Braces for Another Possible Tsunami After 6.1-Magnitude Shock
A 6.1-magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of Japan Wednesday, just hours after a 7.1-magnitude event leveled central Mexico. The tremors erupted at 2:37 a.m. Tokyo time, and the epicenter was approximately 175 miles east of Kamaishi, not far from the 2011 quake that later sent tsunami waves racing toward Japan.

Vanuatu’s Erromango island struck by strong 6.4-magnitude earthquake
A STRONG 6.4-magnitude earthquake has struck Vanuatu’s Erromango island in the Pacific Ocean, the US Geological Survey says. It says the quake struck the centre of the island, Vanuatu’s fourth largest, at 7.09am Thursday local time and was fairly deep at 200km, which would have dampened its effect.

Trump says he made decision on Iran nuke deal, won’t reveal it yet
US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he had made his decision on whether or not the United States will remain in a 2015 nuclear accord between Iran and world powers, but he declined to reveal it. “I have decided,” Trump told reporters when asked if he had made up his mind after having criticized the accord under which Iran agreed to curb its nuclear program in return for relief from economic sanctions.

Democrats caught inciting anti-police riots in St. Louis
The St. Louis Young Democrats are working hand-in-hand with Black Lives Matter to organize protests in the city, now entering their sixth night, and the mayor says she is “listening.” The Young Democrats tweeted Wednesday at about 12:20 p.m. that the next “protest” in response to the not-guilty verdict in the Jason Stockley trial was planned for Wednesday evening, instructing rioters where to show up and at what time, hashtagging #Black Lives Matter on the tweet.

Samantha Power, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, was ‘unmasking’ at such a rapid pace in the final months of the Obama administration that she averaged more than one request for every working day in 2016…the requests to identify Americans whose names surfaced in foreign intelligence reporting, known as unmasking, exceeded 260 last year. Germany adopts international definition of antisemitism
Germany has formally accepted an international definition of antisemitism in a move designed to provide clarity for the prosecution of related crimes. The German Cabinet announced Wednesday that it unanimously adopted the working definition promoted by the International Alliance for Holocaust Remembrance, a body with 31 member states.

North Korea’s top diplomat has called US President Donald Trump’s speech to the UN “the sound of a barking dog”. Speaking to the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, Mr Trump said he would “totally destroy” North Korea if it posed a threat to the US or its allies. Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho’s comments were North Korea’s first official response to the speech.

An Australian schoolgirl suffering from a flesh-eating ulcer is calling for better government funding for research into the infectious disease. Ella Crofts, 13, is slowly recovering from a Buruli ulcer, a skin disease more usually found in developing world. Her case has prompted doctors to warn of a growing epidemic in area of Victoria state where she lives.

Catalonia referendum: Spain PM calls for ‘escalation’ to stop
Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has gone on national TV to urge Catalan separatists to abandon their plans for a referendum on 1 October. He asked the region’s government to give up its “escalation of radicalism and disobedience”. The Spanish authorities have sought to stop the vote, which they regard as illegal, by seizing voting materials.

Mexico earthquake: Race to find survivors under collapsed school
Rescuers are racing against the clock to reach survivors trapped under the rubble of a school in Mexico City which collapsed during Tuesday’s earthquake. One is a 12-year-old girl, identified as Frida Sofia, who is believed to be sheltering under a table. At least 21 children and five adults died when the primary school collapsed and many others are missing.

Hurricane Maria: Whole of Puerto Rico without power
Hurricane Maria has knocked out power across the island of Puerto Rico, home to 3.5m people, officials have said. The US National Hurricane Center said “catastrophic” flooding was sweeping parts of the island. Meanwhile more pictures are emerging of widespread destruction on the small island of Dominica, hit on Monday.

Iran nuclear deal: US ‘sunset clause’ concern remains – Tillerson
US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson has said Washington continues to have “significant issues” with the Iran nuclear deal, after his first talks with his Iranian counterpart. But Mr Tillerson said the talks were “very matter of fact”, and acknowledged Iran was complying with the deal. Wednesday’s talks at the UN, involving all seven parties that negotiated the deal, focused on its implementation.
